In my mind, there are few things that are more authentically Hawaiian than the Sunrise Shell. This endemic shell comes in every color of the sunrise (and sunset) - each one unique and a true ocean treasure. They live in deep waters and rarely wash ashore intact. To find a sunrise shell is pure magic, as it is to wear one around your neck.
This beautiful sunrise shell in particular - a bright ombre of white and gold with defined tiger stripes - was found on Oahu. It is in beautiful condition, still with its "wings."
This beautiful shell is suspended on hand braided chocolate brown waxed cord. A chunk of deep turquoise blue sea glass that I've drilled to create a "bead" makes this necklace adjustable up to 25 inches. Six miniature puka shells hang delicately down the back - a beautiful and elegant finish to the braided cord. Turn the shell over and you find a seriously epic surprise, a fossilized shark tooth (sourced from Maryland) is set into the shell's recess. You can wear this necklace with it facing either direction - two beachy looks for a mermaid who likes a little variety.
This is a perfect way to wear a special piece of Hawaii every day of the year. Dress this necklace up, dress it down, take it to the beach - it is both beachy and sophisticated, elegant and organic.
