Around the Hawaiian islands, you will often hear the phrase "Hawaii nei" which translates to "this beautiful Hawaii." The word "nei" literally means "here" and gives the feeling of something being close.
Each Hawaii Nei bracelet consists of 8 surf tumbled pukas (ranging from half inch to quarter inch) - one for each Hawaiian Island: Big Island, Maui, Kahoolawe, Lanai, Molokai, Oahu, Kauai and Niihau. In the center of these pukas is one special treasure that represents all of Hawaii Nei. You'll find one of the following unique treasures featured in each bracelet: vintage sea glass in aqua, cobalt or lavender, baroque and Edison pearls in peacock, white or blush. The adjustable closure is created with a sliding bead (either pearl, sea glass or semi precious stone) and is finished at the end with 6 additional miniature puka shells.
The spiral macrame is a four ply, hand knotted nylon cord that transitions to a smooth four strand braid. Each bracelet measures, at its smallest, 5 inches and can expand to 11.5 inches, making this a one size fits all piece.
Puka shells, by nature, vary in color and size. The pukas used for these bracelets are neutral tones, which include white, cream, gold, brown, lavendar; some pukas are speckled, spotted, striped, and some are not perfect circles. Each shell is unique, and no two bracelets will ever be the same...just like the paths of the individuals who wear them.
