In my mind, there are few things that are more authentically Hawaiian than the Moonrise and Sunrise Shell. These endemic shell comes in every color of the sunrise (and sunset) - each one unique and a true ocean treasure. They live in deep waters and rarely wash ashore intact. To find a sunrise shell is pure magic, as it is to wear one around your neck.
This beautiful moonrise shell in particular - a unique and complex combination of pink, olive green, dusty blue, lavender and bright yellow - was found on Oahu. It is perfectly imperfect with its two natural pukas (holes), which I personally find completely mesmerizing.
This beautiful shell is suspended on hand braided dark brown waxed cord. A chunk of amber sea glass that I've drilled to create a "bead" makes this necklace adjustable up to 26 inches. Two miniature surf tumbled cone shells hang delicately down the back - a beautiful and elegant finish to the braided cord. Turn the shell over and you find a sweet surprise, a rose gold fill open heart charm is set into the shell's recess. You can wear this necklace with it facing either direction - two beachy looks for a mermaid who likes a little variety.
This is a perfect way to wear a special piece of Hawaii every day of the year. Dress this necklace up, dress it down, take it to the beach - it is both beachy and sophisticated, elegant and organic.
To you. From me.
Love,
The Sea
